I'm doing it!

Some of you may have read THIS blog post back in June where I discussed the possibility of participating in a 3-day, 60-mile walk to fight breast cancer. Since that time I have been walking and walking and walking and walking, and trying to decide whether or not I wanted to commit to doing such a feat. Last week I walked over 30 miles and will do the same this week as well. I am walking with an amazing group of moms from our school and now that I've come this far - I just have to go all the way! I will join these moms & thousands of other people to participate in the 3-day walk for breast cancer in San Diego in November. This is a major fund-raising event sponsored by the "Susan G. Komen for the Cure" organization.  I have never been involved in anything like this event! I have heard that it will be an experience of a lifetime.

If you or someone you know would like to make a donation, you can click on the link to the right, and it will take you directly to my donation page. I will be happy to take donations from "commenters" and "lurkers" alike as I have to earn $2200 in donations for breast cancer in order to participate! Can I do it? I sure hope so. I look forward to sharing this 3-day walk experience with my blog readers.

Why do you have to collect $2200 in donations in order to participate?

Do they provide room and board for three days and transportation from Las Vegas to San Diego?

Hi Whirlygig -

The event is a major fundraiser for the "Susan G. Komen for the Cure" organization, which is why they ask each participant to be in charge of generating a minimum of $2200 in donations to go to that organization. There are actually a lot of participants who raise significantly more than that. All donations are tax-deductible & go directly to Susan G. Komen for the Cure. These walks are organized in 14 major cities throughout the country. There are 2 in California this year - one in the Bay area that just happened the first of September & the San Diego walk in November. The San Diego walk is actually the last walk of the year. There is a lot of information on www.the3day.org.

They do provide pink tents for sleeping at a central campsite as well as meals and lots of snacks & drinks along the walking route. But no - I will provide my own transportation to San Diego. I will also be paying for a hotel room because, after walking 20 miles each day for 3 days, I want a comfy bed, a room, & a tub to soak in - I guess I'm not tough enough to do the camping part!

Hope that answers your question!

LaRae
