Memorial Day?!???!

I can't remember the last time that memorial day weekend looked like this! As we were driving to the cabin last Saturday morning, I just had to stick my head out the window & take a few pictures. Snow on the ground for memorial day - cool! This snow was closer to Brianhead, where the elevation is higher than the cabin, but even at the cabin, the weather felt more like November, with the temperature staying around 40 degrees most days. That's OK - it was still so relaxing to get away from the routine & responsibilities at home.

We spent the weekend with mammy & poppy & Uncle Mike & Aunt Karla. I somehow missed including them in any of our pictures - sorry! We finally watched National Treasure 2 & ate yummy food and played games & took naps (I even took one which happens about once every 10 years or so!) We even made homemade ice cream, cold weather & all. Ben kept us all entertained with his 2-year-old jibber jabber and singing and talking. One night at dinner, as Karla was coming in the room, he looked at her and said, "Karla." When Karla responded, he very seriously told her, "Karla, Mike tooted." - everyone laughed! In Mike's defense, I think he had just burped, but Ben deemed it a "toot" and wanted to make sure Karla knew about it.

If you click on this photo, you can see the snowflakes from the on & off snow flurries that accompanied our memorial day weekend.

For a contrast, here's a picture of Lacey and Isabelle from memorial day weekend last year - 2007. Last year we hung out on the deck & by the river - soaking up the great outdoors. This year, poppy built fires & we bundled up in coats and hung out in the garage or the cabin most of the time. Last year the kids were able to play by the river. This year, they were told they could not go near the river without a grown up. The snowfall this year was so much heavier & the spring runoff is consequently, so much more!

Ben was completely entertained hanging out in the garage with daddy & poppy doing boy "work".

I am thankful for moments like these when I realize that sometimes my girls really do like each other!

3 days of not talking to her friends was just about more than Madi could take.  I call this next series of pictures - "How to get Madi to smile" . . .

almost . . .

Oh hooray! It took a really cute 2-year-old little brother to break the scowl, but it happened! Ben makes us all happy.

Wow, snow, that's cool. I love the picture of your kids with Brad on that 4 wheeler thing. And Madi can't fool us. We know there's a smile in there somewhere. Haha. Anymore news from Dawnae?
