First Year

How can it be possible that my singing, dancing, stubborn, exuberant 5-year-old, who used to perform "Hard Knock Life" from Annie for us, insisting that it was "carphanage" not "orphanage" - how is it possible that she could be old enough to go to Girl's Camp? Madi is a first year! I told her that when I was a first year I had to wear a pacifier around my neck all week and if one of the older girls caught me without it, I had to be her slave for the day. I kind of hope that such traditions have gone by the wayside. I guess I'll find out on Saturday when Madi returns.

I tried to get a picture of Madi this morning before she left, but she wouldn't go for it. She's been rather elusive when it comes to the camera lately. I took this picture on the last day of school a couple of weeks ago, and you can probably tell that she really didn't want me taking her picture.

I miss her tonight and hope that she is warm and comfy in her sleeping bag, all zipped up in her tent. I hope that during her first year at camp she sleeps well and feels well, learns some and grows some, and enjoys her friends and misses her family - just a little! That's what camp is all about - right?

I have noticed Madi's reticence lately toward the camera and I think - oh, the teenage years have begun - good luck with that :-)

I hope she has a great time, too, at camp. Where did they go?

Madi, I'm so glad you had a great time! I think you look great in your picture! Do you have anything else you are really looking forward to this summer? Was the American Idol blurb in your comment a clue?
