The verdict is still out on what I think about Mother's Day. Let's just say that I love being a mom and I love my kids, but the whole mother's day thing - I could take it or leave it. After listening to my kids fight and say mean things to each other as we left the house to go to church on Mother's Day, I did not enjoy the opening hymn selection of - you guessed it - "Love at Home." Quite honestly, I simply refused to sing it. There wasn't a lot of love at my home that morning, and I wasn't feeling particularly loving myself, so "why be a hypocrite?"
Regardless of my feelings about mother's day, my heart is so full of appreciation for my mother, Brad's mother, and our grandmothers and all they have taught us & continue to teach us. They are all examples to me of motherhood and Christlike love. My heart is also full as I think of the overwhelming love I have for my own children and for things I have learned about myself and others by being a mom. I don't believe there is another job that is as difficult, challenging, emotional, worthwhile or fulfilling as that of being a mom. I am stretched daily in ways that I wouldn't be stretched otherwise. I am reminded each day of my many imperfections & weaknesses, but I am also reminded that despite those imperfections and weaknesses, I am loved and needed and accepted by my family.
I enjoyed reading my cousin's mother's day post because she shared some history about the strong line of women that we come from through our grandma Virginia Zobrist. If you are curious about my amazing progenitors, take a look at this post on Melanie's blog. And by the way - my dad is Melanie's mom's "little" brother.
Here are my favorite pictures from mother's day that help express my appreciation for motherhood.
Katie & Brad cooked me up a delicious Mother's Day breakfast. Katie was the official pancake turner. We had pancakes, eggs, bacon, hash browns, & orange juice - and I didn't have to cook or clean up anything! Yum!

Looks like a fun Mother's Day filled with lots of love...with the usual squabbling and annoyances between siblings. :-) A lot of great pictures were taken that day! I enjoyed looking at them.
Your Love at Home incident cracked me up. Loved the pictures - it's always nice to see you - great necklace, and I like your pedi.
Wanna know a secret? I hate Mother's Day. I love being a Mom and I love honoring my mom, but I usually end up feeling guilty and annoyed on Mother's Day. Sigh!
I can't believe you were haunted by the same song mom was always haunted with. Luckily, I didn't have to sing that one! I love your pedi, I really need Madi to come and give me one. The pictures were all really great. I love the Mike/Karla one. That is a definite Mike look.
I had been wondering where your Mother's Day post was! I'm glad to finally read it. Great pictures. And I'm already looking forward to your Last Day of School and Father's Day posts!
