Perhaps the abundance of snow in the mountains of Southern Utah will lend at least a little relief to the drought this summer. We probably need 2 more years like this to end the drought, but at least there is a bit of relief in sight because there is foot upon foot of snow at the cabin right now and it's only the first of February!
We desert rats, who rarely get to sled or build a snowman, wanted to have a little fun in the snow, so we went to the cabin last Friday and Saturday to play in the white stuff. My dad & brother Mike and his wife Karla braved the snow as well.
The road to our cabin is not accessible because of all the snow, so you have to park by the dumpsters off the main road & then somehow transport yourself to the cabin areas. My dad has 2 four-wheelers equipped with "trax" which make the four-wheelers snow-worthy. We rode them from the parking area to the cabin & hauled all our stuff in on the "trax" as well. What an adventure! You should have seen Ben all bundled up so he could barely move while I hung on to him for dear life as we rode to the cabin.
We left the cabin on Saturday evening and did not encounter any weather problems whatsoever. However, it was a different story for my dad, Mike, & Karla who left he cabin on Sunday morning about 11:00, after at least another foot of snow had fallen. That means this sign was close to being covered. Let it snow! (but let's hope for a slow melt in the spring so there isn't any flooding!)
We enjoyed every minute of sledding, playing, & exploring in the snow. It was breathtakingly beautiful - no slush, no melted mess, just clean, white, soft powdery snow. So peaceful. I tried to walk from the deck to the river and could not do it. My entire leg would sink in the snow with each step and I would get stuck. It was good, crazy fun! The best part - the snow stays at the cabin & we get to come home and not have to contend with living in the snow on a daily basis.

Great pictures! That looks like fun. My cousins in Utah said they had a ton of snow last weekend, too - I couldn't believe the pictures. We had a ton of rain here, and our mountains got a lot of snow, it was beautiful when the skies cleared. I like the picture of Madi tossing the snow.
It was "snow much fun". Can't wait to go back!
P.S. Is that me in the picture with Brad? Is that my long hair? Oh, how I miss it.
Seeing your snow pictures puts me into snow withdrawls! It is so beautiful! Ken and Judy went through Fairview Tuesday and reported another foot of snow on top of the two feet we already had. Russ and I are going next weekend and he is excited to dig us out. Love your pictures of the kids having a blast in the snow.
PS I am also having Ben withdrawls!
Gorgeous photos, LaRae. I haven't been to Mt. Pleasant yet this winter, but we have TONS there too. Kimmy says it looks like a winter fairyland up there! Hmmm...I'm glad to be here on my grassy front lawn where I just used my hose to wash off some silk plants...Winter in the desert. Aaah! I love it!
Yeah for you guys getting to leave the snow behind. Our snow here is awfully intense this winter:( I am trying to be positive..kind of. I am glad the girls had fun:)
I love the snow photos. It looks like you all had a wonderful time. My kids are so jealous!
Wow, yes you are so lucky that you don't have to contend with the snow on a daily basis!!!! I am about sick of it! The weatherman the other night said that we need a slow melt to help with the drought as well, apparently quick heat in march or april will not help with the drought....I guess too much evaporates or something like that....he said needs to be hot in May! Better start praying for that. That Sunday that Dad and Mike and Karla came home, our church meeting was canceled because we had so much snow. It was a crazy storm.
