Our Prophet Dear

Today was the funeral of our prophet, the president of our church, Gordon B. Hinckley. It still seems hard to believe that he is gone because he has been at the head of the church as a consistent, loving, uplifting presence for over 12 years. Oh how I will miss him at our General Conference this coming April. I loved listening to President Hinckley speak and always felt motivated and inspired each time I heard him. He encouraged us to be the very best that we can be. He was a voice of optimism and hope and encouraged us to be the same, always moving forward in faith, despite the sadness and wickedness in our world. I marveled at the strength & stamina found in a man in his 80's & 90's, beginning his ministry as the prophet at about 85. His accomplishments and efforts to move the work of the Lord forward are immense. Even though I had never met President Hinckley, I felt I knew him. Each time he spoke he would say "my beloved brothers and sisters", and I knew of his love and testimony of Jesus Christ. As Elder Eyring said at his funeral today, "We are better because of his influence and example."

I know that if I follow the example that President Hinckley has set forth in his own life, I will be a better person in so very many ways. How I have loved this prophet dear.

The BYU website has a beautiful slideshow tribute of President Hinkley, if you haven't had a chance to see it.

Wonderful post LaRae, we will all truly miss our beloved Prophet, but i am happy that he can be with his devoted wife. They were so close in life. There was a song What is this so called death, that was performed by the Tabernacle choir. Pres. Hinckley wrote it for his wife, and Janice Kapp Perry put it to music. She received permission from the prophet to do so three days before his death! I heard this story on the news and thought it was amazing.
