Mother's Day Tea Part 3 - Madi's Class

I ended my day of Mother's Day Teas in Madi's classroom & it was a perfect ending to a great day! Once again, I was served yummy food by my daughter. Madi served me treats from the chocolate fountain - pretzels, strawberries, marshmellows, & more as well as cookies made by the students and strawberry lemonade. We then had a fun time playing a "dating game" style game where the moms & kids tried to answer questions for each other - i.e. "What would your mom/child say is her favorite sport, favorite movie, favorite restaurant, etc." We all had to answer a questionnaire ahead of time so the teachers knew our answers. Madi & I did ok, but not great. Neither of us are big "favorites" kind of gals - we like lots of things - how can you have just one favorite color unless you're a 5-year-old little girl & it's pink or purple?? Anyway - it was kids against moms and Madi got to be the scorekeeper. I think the game ended up being close to a tie.

My gift from Madi was an up-close photo of her beautiful face. Madi had the honor of taking the photos of all her classmates for their gifts. Her teacher saw some pictures Madi had taken & liked her work & assigned her to do this important job. Madi also made me a book of poetry. There were several different styles of poetry that had to be included in the book. Here are a couple of my favorites -

I love my mom she makes my heart sing,
She is one of the best of a million & 3.

She will love me forever,
and so will I, She
makes our happy family.

My mom is the best!
Her name is not Tom.
I really love her a ton.
Her name is also not Ron.
She would rather walk than run.
She's really quite fun.
I am her hun.
She likes to hum.
She makes yummy food.
She keeps my bed from being lumpy.
I really luv her!!

Finally the kids sang their special song for their moms. Each year their teachers change the words to a song and add new lyrics, fitting for moms. Last year they changed "We are the Champions" by Queen to "We love our mothers". This year they changed the lyrics to that 80's classic collaboration "We are the World". It was great! For the last couple of weeks, Madi has been going to You Tube to play the We are the World video. (go check it out - it will bring back memories for some of you!) When Madi watched it, she wanted to know why Michael Jackson had to change the way he looked - isn't that a question we've all asked? Anyway, I was trying to figure out why her teachers were teaching them this song. I never made the connection that it could have to do with mother's day! Anyway, her teachers put together these great lyrics -

Now is the time, when we have to sing out loud
'bout our mom and how she makes us so proud
We can't stop from shouting our hearts are full of love
She is the greatest gift of all.

We must go on and keep telling all the world,
That our moms are special guiding lights.
I can sleep at night, as peaceful as can be,
Cause I know, she's watching over me.

We love our moms, we are her children
We are so thankful everyday for what she's given.
As we sing her praises high, where the eagles fly,
You'll know just about how we all feel about our mom.

Well you are the best, and you need to hear it now,
We say thanks for all that you've done.
You're always loving, and always lend a hand
To us, you're the greatest gift of all.

You are my world, you are my mother,
You are the one who makes a brighter day there is no other.
You're always there to help me and
Wipe my tears away, it's you who makes a better day in every way.

We can succeed, by having you on our side,
It's due to you, our hear just bursts with pride.
You are the core of our happy family,
Just know you're the answer to our prayers.

You are my world, you are my mother,
You are the one who makes a brighter day there is no other.
You're always there to help me and
Wipe my tears away, it's you who makes a better day in every way.
