You know your dad's an accountant when . . .

you're 5 years old & you know what tax season is.

Over spring break one of my girls made some remark about tax season & her cousin looked at her & said "what's tax season?" How many kids do you know who know about tax season? Only those who have parents for accountants - I am sure! What kid would ever care about tax season? Most adults would rather not face that April 15th deadline - no matter what their occupation!

When Madi was very little she would cry when we would tell her that tax season was coming. At eleven, she has adapted. In fact, a week or so ago she unknowingly hurt her dad's feelings when he said to her, "stop treating me like some guy who just comes by every once in a while." Then she said, "well, that's what you are." Poor daddy! He didn't want to hear that.

I do feel that our family has learned how to get through tax season. We all have to sacrifice time with those we love. This just happens to be our time. Over the years, I have learned to appreciate tax season even though it is quite taxing (no pun intended!) on us all. After all, a busy tax season means Brad's business is doing well. It means that we are blessed with a good living to provide for our family. The time away from our husband & dad makes us appreciate all the more the time when he can be with us. Tax season is a finite amount of time. It always comes to an end & we always know when it will be over. When I was a little girl my mom lived through summer after summer of "ice season" when my dad was gone, working at the ice company he owned - often for 18 to 20 hours a day for months at a time. We never knew exactly when "ice season" would start or end - it just depended on the desert heat. One thing was a guarantee - "ice season" usually started around memorial day & lasted through labor day. I will take tax season over ice season any day!

Though Ben was with us last tax season, he didn't notice the absence of daddy. This morning I realized that even the littlest member of the family is affected by tax season. Daddy got Ben up this morning & played with him for a little while. Then he tried to give Ben to me. Most of the time this is not a problem. Ben is a mommy's boy, I will admit! However, this morning, Ben protested when dad tried to hand him over. When I pointed him back toward dad, he happily toddled right back into dad's arms. Even Ben is noticing that daddy is not around as much & he misses him. I would too - poor Ben alone in this house of women! Even at one, he needs his guy time.

So now tax season is almost over & you can bet that we'll be throwing a party around here!

A rare moment in April - a relaxed daddy!

You caught a great picture of Ben and daddy so sweet. We understand about daddy's not being home around here! It is hard on the little ones.
