Boy Crazy at Five

My other girls were never this way, so I really didn't know that one so young could be so interested in someone of the opposite sex, but Lacey is boy crazy! Mind you, she is NOT crazy about all boys, just one boy - Derek - her one and only true love since she was 3! Maybe it's because they were in a small preschool class together when they were 3, maybe it's because he's the first boy she developed a friendship with, maybe it's because he's cute, - I don't really know. But, I do know that since she was 3 she gets absolutely giddy everytime she sees him. Seriously, giddy! She gets all nervous & smiles & blushes & you can just tell that her little heart probably feels like its going to pop out of her chest. (by the way - Lacey just drew this little picture last week & posted it on the refrigerator for all to see.) Anyway - most girls at age 5 want to marry their daddy, but Lacey; well, Lacey wants to marry Derek. This is the child who told her sisters over a year and a half ago that Derek wasn't cute, he was gorgeous (this from the mouth of a 3-year-old). She has a bonafide crush on a little boy who I think is a pretty good sport about it all. He is a sweet friend to Lacey & seems to at least tolerate her flirtings. She has hugged him in front of his brothers, which would be embarassing to any boy! (pictures show 3-year-old Lacey & 4-year-old Derek.)

The other day she and I had this short conversation:

Lacey: Mom, Derek knows he's my boyfriend.
Mom: Oh really, how does he know that?
Lacey: I told him yesterday at church.
Mom: What did he say?
Lacey: He said, I know.

Then she had this chat with her dad:
Lacey: Dad, Derek is my boyfriend.
Dad: How do you know?
Lacey: That's easy, Heavenly Father told me.
Dad: When did he tell you that?
Lacey: Yesterday at lunch.

I think we might be in trouble when she's 16! For now, we are just fine with this little girl crush. We can only hope that when she is 16, she still has such good taste in young men. And - you never know - Lacey just may know something the rest of us don't (after all, she is the one person in the family who insisted on talking about & buying gifts for our "baby" well before Benjamin was even conceived!) - so, maybe they will get married. Stranger things have happened . . .

Derek is a cutie, I can see Lacey's point in wanting to marry him. These little girls are just too funny. Ava has also had "one true love" for quite some time now. Derek sounds like a very nice boy!

I'll need to know how this romance turns out :-) I think Lacey DOES know something that nobody else knows.

with these two you can see how arranged marriages might not be all so bad. a hyer marry a wallace. well now that just might be as good as a zobrist marrying a wallace! good blood!
