"blog crazy, photo obsessed mother of of 4 seeks extra storage space for her digital photos. Seems that she takes so many photos of her "four" that she has filled up her computer's hard drive as well as her allowed photo space on blogger. Along with extra storage space, professional help would be appreciated. Those with extra space should respond to this blog post. Those with similar obsessions, who have successfully conquered "space" issues are welcome to respond as well."
Yes, I have to upgrade my blogger account because it seems that I have 500 pictures in my Picasa Web album (my digital album where all my blog photos are stored). 500 pictures, my friends, in less than 1 year! And even worse, I have 5,622 photos stored on the hard drive of my computer - & that's in a little OVER a year! I think I need professional help. I have purchased an external hard drive to house all my photos, I just have to figure out the best way to get them all transferred over.
Why is there never enough space - either physical or digital? I need more space in so many areas of my life.
As a fun side note -
I just love Lacey & her generally upbeat personality. She is so bright and so sweet. She just brought me a poem that she wrote. It goes like this -
Violets are blue, Roses are red, trees are green, and I am happy!
How delightfully simple and assuring to a mom to know that her child is happy! The cutest part of the poem - she spells "trees" as "chres". She is not my first child who thought "tr" ought to be "chr".
My little Lacey - I am so glad you are happy!

You could buy a 'a lot of space' brain on a chain (i.e. jump drive) then the pix could be portable, too. Or you could create a new Picasa account using another email address and then you could use up all that space - in fact, you could create 4 accounts -
1 for each child and store their pictures that way - Ok I should go to bed, because THAT just made too much sense to me, and probably no sense to anyone else!
Janet - What you said does make sense, and I like your idea about setting up other Picasa accounts with other gmail accounts - but doesn't my blog have to be tied to one email? If so, I don't know if I could access photos in other Picasa albums for my blog.
true....I was not sure if you used your Picasa account to access your pictures for your blog - now that I know that - well - Hm - you would have to use your maid account for blogging and have other accounts for storage only.
Or - (gasp) delete some pictures...
But your pictures are all good and unlike some I take - you can tell what is in the photo!
LaRae - I must say you truly have a problem! I believe it is time to call on the wisdom of Judy Patuti -The Famous Monkey Lady for advice. Judy are you out there?!
janet - here's the deal w/ blogger, as i understand it - blogger automatically puts any photos you post on your blog into your picasa web album. i do not use picasa web album for anything at all - the 500 pictures in it are all photos that i have posted on my blog. i am shocked that i have posted that many, but i guess i have! if i delete photos from my web album, they get deleted from my blog. the two are entertwined, whether i like it or not. the way i understand it, every blog on blogger works this way - only those who are photo happy like me run into this problem of lack of space.
Judy Patuti here - I have no answer, in fact, I am slightly stunned and in fear of running out of room myself. LaRae, let us know how you solve this.
There is always more space - it just comes at a price. No more free blogger - I will have to pay to get my additional space. I was just hoping to find another way, but I am pretty sure there isn't one!
Oh I just love that poem. Nothing makes me happier when my kids are happy. As for the space, I am sorry but I have no answers for you. Space is a highly coveted item, at least at my house! love ya, and sorry the blog world has been a little lonely. I promise soon that it will get better from my end.
Well, I didn't realize this could be a problem...how annoying. I will have to ask the blog designer when he comes back around. He might have some ideas. It sounds like you are right though...just no more free blogger:( Lacey has a wonderful poem there. It is nice when children are happy:)
Sorry I have been MIA, just barely hanging on here but hoping to get it together really soon!
I use Picasa for pictures and my blog never uploads to picasa - no idea why, but it doesn't. But, when I upload pictures from my camera to my 'my pictures' section of my PC, the next time I open picasa it automatically searches for new pictures and adds them to it's data base, which I can access from anywhere and access to use for my blog - but, mine are not entertwined. Weird, huh?
Jump drive - I love them - call them my 'brain on a chain...' I know Best Buy has one with A LOT of space on sale right now for $49.95 - I just bought one for one of my employees at work....
I'm not sure what is the deal with Blogger. It's pretty lame. If I were paying for a blog, I don't think it would be Blogger; too buggy!
As for storage, make sure that you have a RAID 1 system. Everything you save is automatically stored on two drives. If one fails (which happens to all of them, eventually), you still have a copy (but you should hurry and get the other drive replaced before that second drive fails too).
A RAID system can be setup for many, many computers very cheaply. But for a Mac, I'm guessing that your only option is an external drive. Maybe Apple sells a RAID drive, or you could buy something like a Western Digital MyBook at Costco. Just make sure it is a RAID with two or more replaceable drives inside.
Of course, your computer could catch fire or something, destroying both drives in a RAID. Then you would be glad to have most of your photos backed up, maybe on a DVD in a safe deposit box or at a relative's house. There are also some online storage providers that can take your backup over the Internet.
Thumbdrives are handy, but relatively expensive per gigabyte of storage and not reliable. I wouldn't keep my only copy of anything on a flash drive.
I have a similar obsession and addiction. Its called iTunes and consists of 175GB of video, music, Movies, TV shows and audio books. I have to store my iTunes library on an external drive and (literally) as we speak am transferring the (full) 160GB to a 750 GB drive. 4 hours and 29 minutes remaining!! My iPod isnt even big enough.
